Shortly after 8 o’clock Peter Duffy, E-q., who was ananimously voted to the chair, opened the meeiing ina few poi: t-d and appropriate remarks. The first speaker was Mr. Yeo, who in common with his Grit friends throughout the country, re- cited the chepter of blue ruin and vecant farms, eulogized the United States to the disparagement of Caneda, declared the proposed branch railways to be delusions and election dodges, made a feeble and idnocent effort to jastify his conduct in refusing to right the injustice saddled by a segment of his own party On an aggriev- cd minority, and condemned the Nationa! He ably reviewed the depression that marked the period of grit rule from 1873 to 1878, and showed clearly how the McKenzie administration had given rise to those deplorable cunditions that led io the introduction of the Nation- al Policy in 1878. He pointed to the great public works throughout the Do- minion, and proved to the entire ratisfac- tion of all how the Nationa!
