GRAND IURY FIND B|llS IN TWU CASES True bills were returned by the Grand Jury at the Summerside Supreme Court yeaterciay in the cases of the King vs. George Champion, charged with retaining stolen goods and in the case of the King vs. Harry Wm. Dickie charged with manslaughter, in connection with the death of Arthur MncQuarrie on the highway early in July. When the Court opened at 10.30 Chief Justice Mathieson addressed the Grand Jury separately on each charge. 'I`he charge against George Champion for unlawfully retaining in his pos easion four fox pups thc property of Leslie MacNutt, knowing them to have been stolen, was first taken up by His Lordship. who pointed out to the Jury that they must bear in mind that they did not have to find a verdict, but to determine whether there was sufficient evidence to put the man upon his trial. The Grand Jury found a true bill in this case. His Lordship then reviewed the case of the King vs, Harry \Vm. Dickie, charged with manslauglitexj. His Lordship in this case dealt very clearly with what constitutes manslaughter. He laid particular emphasis on the fact that the law required that every one who oper- ates such a dangerous machine r a motor car :houid do so with care and skill so as not to endang- gcr the life oi’ any persons who are entitled to use the highway. The prisoner, George Champion, was arraigned after the Grand Jury had been discharged at the conclusion of their duties yester- day afternoon. ’1‘he petty jury for the trial of George Champion of Darniey, was then empanelled. Muttart Gutted By Fire The beautiful residence of Mr. H. G. Muttart, President of Sin- clair & Stewart Ltd., was consid- erably damaged yesterday by fire which was well underway when discovered. The fire alarm was rung in at ten minutes past seven by the maid, who upon rising had dis- covered the cellar full of smoke and flames. When the firemen arrived the whole house was filled with smoke and they had difficulty in getting at the seat of the fire. A pile oi’ wood was burning in the basement, the ceiling was burned and the flames had spread the fire up between the walls of the ground fioor. The wall in the dining room had to be torn down and the oak panels in the hall were damaged. ' It was nine o’clock before the firemen had thc tire under con- trol. The rooms on the ground floor were considerably damaged by smoke and water. Mr. Crabbe, Fire Marshal, hap- pened to be in Summcrside and was at the fire with Mr. MacNeili, chief of the fire depnrtnlcnt. Mr. Beer came up inter. The origin of the fire is unknown. Mr. Muttart's residence is sit- uated on Central street, Summer- side, and is one of the nnest in the town. The extent of the dam- age has not yet been estimated.-S sei Craig, Arthur Wall. James Harding and Wallace Champion. Thane A. Campbell, Attorney- General and L. Cv. Lewis !or_the Crown, C. D. Ma:Callum for the defence. The case will be rerum- ed when the court opens this morning.
