Hiow They Were Rescucd. of the crew of the missing steamer Danmark, and all of the passenyers left at the Azores by the Missouri, have arrived at Lsbon on the steamer Acor Raben, the first officer, reported that on April 4, the Dinmark’s shaft was broxen, and the next day the disabled steamer met the steamship Misseuri, from London tor Philade!phia and Baltimore. The Missouri towed the Dinmark until the 6th, when the jatter seemed abourto sink. At first the Missouri was only able to take abvard about 200 of the Danmark’s pasengers, but after having jettisoned a portion of her eargo, she found accommodation for all the crew and the passengers. The Missouri proceeded to the Azores, and left there the first and second officers and 320 of the pas- gengers. She then continued on her jour- ney to Philadelphia with 340 passengers Forty-two and the remainder of the crew. The Dan- mark was about 809 miles from Newfound- land when the accident happeced. The engine pipe on the Dsomark burst and the engineer was killed on the spot. The ship was badly dam«ged, and in consequence of this damace, together with the breaking of the shaft, the vessel was helpless in the heavy seas that prevailed. ———_— +o Meury George on Wages. Mr. George had a conversation with the eminent pwlitical economist, Professor Thorold Rue rs, &a few days ago. Mr. Rogers told him that a calculation he had recently made showed that the wages of a common laburer in the days of Henry VIL. would be equiva ent in the money of our day to £145 perannum. Mr. George after- wards learned that the present wayes of a coal miner in good times were about £65 ayear.
