A nnvrcn for cleaning out the cott- iugs nn the railway was triad for the first time yesterday torenoon on the P. E. I. B., but owing to the weakness of some of the iron work, was taken back to the machine shop for further strengthen- ing. The plow which is built on a flat ear mnch resembles the well known road machine with a shovel nr scoop on each aids. These shovels can be moved out or in to suit the cutting by a lever at the rear of the flat car. The working of building the machine whiohia from plans of the Superinten- dent, Mr. Sharpe, has been in progress for several weeks under the direction of Fred Boulc. The start was made yesterday morning lt 11.40. The Bat oar with the widener was attached to a passenger car and the the party composed of the Superintend- ent, Mechanical Superintendent Poole, Trackmaster Houle,|Fred Henle, Brakea~ man Ryan, a representative of The Guardian and several train hands left the station. It was thought that a good test would be made at_Hunter River but when the llrat heavy snow was met at Mount Edward Curve one of the arms anpportinga side cracked ata bolt and the experiment had to be given up for the T-imc. The Widener however was sufficiently tasted to show how its defects may be reminded and when this is done there is ro doubt but that it will be a great assistance in keep- ing the outings clear during slormy weather. It was taken hack to the machine shop and the work ol lowering the shovels and strengthening the arms will be proceeded with at once.
