Gratowinl 189 Kent St., Charlottetown 894-4291 Notice A grave error was printed on the front plage of . the Gem last week regarding the VP Communi- - cation. This position will be elected this semester (April 6—7) and not in October as stated. Council has decided to hold a General Meet- ing Tuesday, April 5 in order to give candidates a chance to speak and elections will occur Wed. and Thurs., April 6 & 7. The VP Communica- tions cannot be elected in the General elections this month due to time restraints in the constitu- tion. It is the will of council that this position be elected and in place for Sept. 88 and thus nec- essary to elect the VPC before the end of this semester. The main focus of this position will be to com- municate to the students and faculty of UPEI, the on-goings of the student union. The VPC will, in conjunction with the president, act as a _ spokesperson for the SU both within and outside the university community. One chief responsibility of the VPC will be to oversee and maintain the SU Mini-centre in the pit. This will enable the students to have access to direct communication with the SU. The VPC will not be responsible for advertising for pubs and social events as the SU hires a Promotions Co-ordinator to fulfill this need. As this is a new position, much of the success of VPC depends on the capability of the person elected to this position. All students are encour- aged to take an active interest in electing the SU’s first VPC. Nominations will open March 21 and close March 28 at 4 pm. A meeting will follow at 4:30 which all candidates must attend., Speeches will be held at the General Meeting of April 5 and elections again to follow April 6 & 7. It is our hope that by establishing this position, com- munication between students and their SU will be more effective thus making for a better year and a better Student Union.
