Murdock Hattie aud two others were at work on the walla of the factory, and Hattie lost his balance, falling a distance of 30 feet into the mill race, and was carried by the stream a short distauce. He lived only a few hours. Ar.oat Acatx.—The barge Rembrand:. with 1300 tons of coal from Chatham N, B. wastowed into Summerside harbor for shelter on Wedueeday, but during the storm of that day she dragged her anchors and grounded on the south bar. An up successful attempt was made to float her yesterday. Today another attempt was made after relieving her of some of her cargo and she was successfulfy floated. We have not heard that she was damaged tc any extent. Coat 1x Betcicm.—The Belgians are preparing to celebrate the seventh centev- ary of the discovery of coal. The first coal fire was kindled by a blacksmith of Leige, named Haullioz, in his smithy in 1197. The discoverer is buried in the church of Ladineart, in the Pas-de Calais, and the inscription on bis tombstone testifies that he sunk the first coal pitat Anzin. The French word ‘‘bouille”’ coal is supposed to be derived from the name of this blackeimith of Liege. — <— Tursine Sitver isto Goitp.—Extra- ordinary assertions continue to be made as to the ability of Dr. Emmens to transform silver into gold by means of mechanical treatment. A London paper says that Dr. Emmeo’s results have been verified by well known English chemists, and about three weeks ago M. Tiffereau, the famouse Frevch chemist, eadorsed the conclusion. Dr. Emmens is pow preparing a machine for subjecting silver to a pressue of 8,000 tons per equare inch, and hopes to produce 56,00@ ounces of gold per month. He is also experimenting as to the transmutation of other metals into one another. Cavrcn Reorentye.—The Charch of All Sainte, Cardigan Bridge, will be re- opened to public worship by Hise Lord- ship the Bishop~of Charlottetown, on Wednesday, Dec. 8th. The church has been enlarged and entirely remodeled and when finished will be ove of the finest :acred edifices in the Province. The dedi- catien sermon w ll be preached by Rev. R. B. Macdonald, of Rust'co, whose fame as @ pulpit orator is co—extems:ve with the North American Continent. A collection in aid of the church funds will be taken up on the occasion.
