The vessel is 300 feet long, 46 feet beam, 16 foet 3 inches hold. Displacement 3,750 tons. On her trial trip the engines developed 7,697 horse power, and the speed at- tained was withina trifle of twenty- two miles anbour. These aro remark- able results for a vessel of the dimen- sionsgiven. The‘ Mercury ” has twin screws, driven by separate engines ar- range in separate engine rooms. Lier machivery nearly fills the hull. There are twelve boilers, four high* pressure eylinders each 41 inches diameter, and feur jow pressure cylinders, 75 inches diameter.
