I l X Thursday afternoon Robinson’s ls- land, Rustico, was the scene of a very enjoyable outing in which about one hundred young people of Itusllco and vicinity participated. 'l‘he pic- nickers were taken ill motor boat from Oyster Bed Bridge to the place already mentioned where amuse- meuts for everybody had been ar- ranged 'for previously. Tile dance which always is an important item in the Picnic programme was not overlooked in this case for a fisher- man's "Shauty" which had been cleaned up for the occasion proved to be an ideal place for dancing. Excel- lent violin music for the dance was .supplied by Mr. Joseph Gallant, Oys- ter Bed Bridge. To these happy ex- cursionists at least the afternoon seemed but too short and word soon came from the boats that it was time to go home. The merry party bowed to the inevitable and was soon on its way homeward. Expressions of satis- faction about the days outing could be heard on all sides all agreeing that lt was the most pleasant al'tcl'noon they had spellt this summer.--T. BROOKFIELD IN LINE.--Mr. John R. McLeod, elder in the Presbyterian Church, Brookfield, has written a let- ter to his pastor, Rev. J. H. McHattlc, stating that he would contribute the sum of $500.00 if the congregation would make up the same amount. The money is to purchase a machine gun to be used by the Canadian soldiers at the front. The matter has been taken up by the congregation and no doubt will be successfully carried through. Mr. McLeod and his brother, Angus. recently gave $100,00 to establish two hospital beds for wounded Canadian soldiers, besides contributing liberally to all the otller patriotic funds. These men are unable to fight the battles of the Empire at the front, but are doing their bit at home. Their cxaluplc is well worth copying. Another oi' the elders of Brookfield Church, Mr. An- gus Beatou, has three sons wliollavc volunteered. Two of tlleln have been in active service and have been wound ed. Mr. George McLeod, student in the Presbyterian Theological College, Halifax, soil of a third Brookileld elder is in hospital service in France.
