While wheeling at Burlington Beach, Ont., on Monday afternoon, Willie Lawry, 14 years of age, was sirack by ligbtoing and instantly killed, Gharles W. James, a local Methodiet preacher, was killed by lightning in front of his house in Killarney, Manitoba, on Saturday evening. Tue Sacrep Heaev—The feast of the Sacred Heart was elaborately celebrated at Alberton on Friday. The church was beautifully decorated with green beeches, relieved by the flowering ch-rry aud pear, and the grand white marble marble sliar | made more beautiful if possitle by a pro- {fusion of palms, apple biessoms, tapers and fancy lighte. A supberb programme of appropriate music was executed by the talented Mrs. Doiron and a competent choir. The Solemn High Mass took place at 8 o’clock, and was followed by Benedic- tion. Rev. Dr. Chaisson was the cele brant, Rey. Fathers McGrath and Turbide the deacons and Rev. Fathers Gallant «nd Burke directed the ceremonies. There was a large attendance. To anyone having ataste for the beauti- ful there is now presented an excellent opportunity for graufying that taste. Sr. St. Pierre, bus good reazon to be proud of the eplendid work done by the young Indies, This includes a painting on china by Mies Y. Shebyn, which is es poe at ot potice; also a fires «creemof very pleasing desigu with hand- painted panels,the work of Misses Vanider- stine and Shehyn, and numerous oil paint ings of special merit by Mis-es Sbebyn, Vaniderstine, E. Horosby and A. Hogan. In this couvnection must be mentioned a pastel, the work of Miss A. Bearnes, also Severel specimens of crayon work by some of the young ladies already mentioned. Of this exhibit the gem isthe representation of the “ Resurrection,” a eplendioly-exe- cuted piece of crayon work by Miss Kugen‘e Hornsby. That the accomplish. ments of these young ladies are varied, is shown by the beantifol display of em- broidered doylies, tea cosie*, pincusbions and otber articles both useful and oroa~ mental, among which is a head rest show- ing geome very skillfal baad painting on satin, the work of Miss A Hogan, who, with Misses E. Hornsby, 5. Hornsby, B. McDonald, M Larkio, F. McLean aod Neliie Morgan, shows some very fine work in thie department. Of plain sewing there is also a good exhibit, the work of the following: Misses Doucett, Dillon, S. Coyle, M McCourt, A. Clarkin and A. Kelly. Last, acd bv no means least interesting, ie the work of the little tore in the Kindergarten, tracing designe, clay moulding etc, etc , all of which is very well done and deserving of praise. Afler viewing the work visitors must conclude that these young ladies have received the most careful iastruction from the talented Sisters of Notre Dame, and that they have profited by it is evident by the quantity and more particularly by the excellence of the work.
