THE second evening performance by Prof. Crockcr‘s_ wonderful horses was tru- ly up to the high standard of the former performance. The horses are simply win derful, their olsver evolutions, their mar- vellous memoi'y,thelr graceful movements combine to make a spectacle at once edi- fying and instructive. The whole enter~ tainment is refined, elevating and enter» taining. It deserves ii crowded house at each per-formance which our citizens should accord the owner and trainer of these magnificent animals. E.\s'i'1~:nN Nivrias.-Warm and summer weather is here the last week, and crops are doing fairly wcil. The harvest of the sea has been disappointing, so far as cod were concerned in the great cod district from South Lake to Little Harbor. A school of hake is on our shores now, their chief resort is from Basin Head west, the sandy bottom from Basin Head to East Point not being congenial to their tastes, or agreahle to their habits. A scarcity of bait has seriously affected the catch of cod, and the present outlook for bait for bake is by no means. light. The large summer herring which at one time resor- ted toour waters in warm weather ir-ive ly finished our once magnificent mackerel fisheries. The lobster season has been a particularly good one, especially on the North Shore.-Our cheese factories are getting a fair supply of milk, though far short of the average year, and It is to be 'hoped that a strong effort on the part of their patrons will tide 'them over to more prosperous times.-Miss Elvis Stewart 'teacher at Brudnel, has been visiting her friends here.-Mrs Taylor and daughter are spending the summer with her father A.
