in a general reply to questions on matters
of international interest said there had
been unexpected delay in the Venezulan
question due to the fact that France and
Spain objected to theiuse of the English

St. Patrick’s Hall on Friday evening under
the auspices of the Presbyterian Church
was a most enjoyable and successful
affair. A choice program was rendered in
which the following ladies and gentlemen
took part.: Mrs. Carrington, New York;
Miss Bremner, Charlottetown; Miss
Haskell, New York; Miss Duff, Carbonear,
N111; Mrs. Goodall, New York; Mr. Jury
and Mr. Fougere. A chorus by ladies
was sweetly sung, and a selection by a
male sextette was given in grand _style.
Each number met with the most hearty
and enthusiastic applause, and where all
was so good it would be difficult to

However it must be said that an Iland
audience is rarely afforded such a treat as
_was given in the recitation by Mrs.
Carrington, who simply entranced those
prr sent by her elccutionary powers, which
are of the highest order. It is hoped that
the great kindness of this lady will he re-
peated on some future occasion. The chair
was occupied by Judge _ Warburton who
discharged the duties laid upon him with
his usual grace and dignity. The thankr
of the congregation are due to Mr. Bolsne
for t e assistance he gave and which
