Drive in todayi liionthly ‘Meeting Children ’s Aid Society There was s. small attendance at the aiuiual meeting of the Child- ren's Aid Society of Prince County, holdin the Red Cross Rooms in the Town Hall, Summerside, on Tuesday, Dr. McPhee presiding. After the reading of the minutes of the last annual meeting. Mr. V. J. Harrington submitted his yea:- ly report. l iilr- Harrington's llepairt To the President and Board of Management of the Children's Aid ‘Society of Prince County: 1 As we are clcxslng another your‘, 20f the Society's activities ill the linterests of neglected and depend-l ant children I may say the year‘ has been a busy one, as there are many matters that naturally come which the Society looks after both m the town and country. My records show that clothing and footwear was supplied to forly children in Summerside and seven cases in the country were provided for. I made five investigations of cases reported from country dis- tricts occasioned by reports received by the Society from outside sources. I made 6'1 calls on homes where it was reported the children were absent from school. In most cases the children were out of class on», persisted in not attending school. 1 paid as visits to Summerside l-ligh School during the year. Iii the Juvenile Court we had six cases involving some [l5 boys ac- cused of pilfering, destroying property and one for vagrancy. Two boys were sentenced, placed in St. Patrick's Home, Halifax; and one young girl was placed in the Home of the Good Shepherd! at St. John, N. B. Several children‘ were placed in the Provincial Or-, phanages and one boy in a counlryi , home. The Sewing Circle oi the C-Vi'.L.,| was of very great assistance in‘ providing clothing for needy child- i'(‘l"l. I may add from my personal ob- servation regarding distress, that it is more in evidence at the be- ginning of the present wiinter than, in any previous yieur. and more aid will be required to relieve the situ- ation. i Signed, v. J. i-ianuisxrrox,‘ Truant Officer and agent for {he Children's Aid Society. , President's Report The president, Dr. J. A. MCPiiEI‘. in his annual report stated that the Society during lhc past year had carried on its work as usual, quietly and effectively and that there was nothing unusual to re- port. - I-Ie stated that more interest should be taken by the citizens in general in the work of the Society which is carrying on a. very neces- sary work and is chiefly concerned with the care. and protection ing to lack of clothing and foot-, wear, some through illness. and‘ some from want of books. whose; parents were too poor to purchase‘ them I reported the last. named cases to the Board oi Trustees and they supplied the necessary books.
