Whitlock. one of the “Lucky Bunch" of six Charlotte- town boys who have put in two years at the front without receiving any- thing worse among them than one D. C. M. and one little scratch, in a re- cent letter to his mother described a trip in an aeroplane which he had been lucky enough to be favoured with. The following extract will be of interest: "Most of the fellows had to go up when the clouds were at about 3,000 feet elevation. I was ra- ther a bit more fortunate and got up between 4,000 and 5,000 feet. I wish you could have seen me in my flying outfit: head gear. goggles. etc. And oh. the speed! and didn't I enjoy the run along the ground _gathering up speed for the ascent, travelling 75 to 85 miles an hour, somewhat faster than I had ever travelled in a car. Up she goes! I suppose you will wonder what lt felt like. oh! The sensa- tion? Peculiar. but there wusn‘t any. I could see the country very plainly. As we get higher of course it was more difficult to distlnguiehi things, but buildings roads,.railroads. villages. ponds etc.. are things one cannot mistake. Things had the ap- pearance of being seen through the small end of a ileld glass. I picked out a railway track and for i\ oment it puzzled me. I thought at first It was a trench railway but looking about I knew there wasn"t such a track In the vlcnliy. At last I' re- cognized the narrow 'grey streak as one of the railways. Another thing that puzzled me for a while was something thnt looked like torn scraps of paper and whiIe,`y_v§udering if the Kaiser had tom up a'u_o`ther in- ternational treaty I discovered that it was a washing that some women had spread out on the grass to dry.
