The Bear rank immediately, snl twelve men weut Cown with her, only twe of the crew being rescued by a boat from the Britannia, After the collision the Britannia, which was badly damaged, trans- ferred her forty four passengers to the steamer Thomas P. was taken in tow by that vessel. Before the vessels had gone far the hawser connecting the vessels snapped, and the damaged ves-el gave a terrific plunge and sank. All the crew, ex- cept the chef engineer, were picked up by boats from the Thames. The chief en- gineer went down with the vessel and was not seen again. Ottawa Notes. Orrawa, Jan. 11.
