The Department of -, Manpower and Immigration of the Government of Canada in co-operation with the Ad- ministration of University of P.E.I. maintains a full- time Canada Manpower Centre on Campus on a year round basis. This office is a part of the national net- work of Canada Manpower. Centres and, thus, can contact employers at any location in Canada on behalf of any student. Information on all of the programs and services of the Department of Manpower and,Immigration are availa— ble at the Canada Manpower Centre on Campus. The purpose of the UPEI Canada Manpower Centre on Campus is to assist university students in obtaining employment and td'assist employers wish— ing to recruit at the University. Another very important part of our "on—campus" function is that of employment and career counselling which involves: 1) Providing job require- ment and occupational trans information and, 2) Assisting in the develop- ment of an occupational .plan. For the convenience of foreign students attending UPEI, an Immigration Counsellor from the Canada Immigration Centre will visit the Ganada Manpower Centre on Campus as required to assist those who have problems with their Canadian Admission Record forms. The services offered by the Canada Manpower Centre on Campus are free to all Canadian and landed immigrant students of UPEI. Registration at the Canada Manpower Centre on Campus is not compulsory but it is recommended for a student's own benefit. As a new or returning student at UPEI, you should familiarize yourself with the Canada Manpower Centre on Campus soon after your arrival on campus. This can best be done by visiting the office, obtaining a Personal Infor— mation Form, completing this form and then arranging to have an interview. The Personal Information Form which you complete will remain in the files of the Canada Manpower Centre on Campus until you graduate from UPEI, but it should be updated each year that you are at the University. As previously mentioned, all registration is on a / [preparation. .9. volunta your completed Personal Information Form, we are unable to assist you in obtaining any type of employment. The completion . of the Personal Information Form is the first step in seeking permanent, summer, part—time or casual employh ment. Representatives from various employers will be 'visiting the UPEI campus from mid-October to March to interview graduating students for permanent or summer employment and to , interview undergraduates for summer employment. You will be informed when the various employer representatives are visiting the'campus by notices on bulletin boards and in the Cadre. These notices are revised each week during the academic year. Canada Manpower Centre on Campus bulletin boards are located in the following areas: 1) Main Building - Rm.102 — Canada Manpower Centre. 2) Main Building - lst Floor adjacent to Student ‘ Services Department. 3) Various Academic Depart: ments. The bulletin boards located in Main are “master” bulletin boards and all Canada Manpower Centre on Campus notices will appear on these boards. Notices appearing on the bulletin boards in the various academic departments will pertain to employment 1 opportunities related to the particular.department. One of the major .responsibilities of the Canada Manpower Centre on Campus is that of employment counselling, career planning, jobéhunting and interview ‘ Information on various careers with different companies is available in the form of, company brochures, company information binders, and career directories. Many of these items are available to students as handout material. Application forms for employment with the federal and provincial governments and many companies and other organizations are also availa- ble at the Canada Manpower Centre.
