TRUANT OFFICERS REPORT CHILDREN'S AID SOCIETY, FSIDE Mr. President, Ladies a Gentlemen:- I hereby beg to submit my annual I report as Truant Officer for the town and agent for the Children's Aid So- ciety of Prince County. - Ill reviewing events transpirirlg since our lost annual meeting in Dec. 1928, I may say as Truant Officer, I have had at times" a fairly busy school year. At the beginning of the school year in September, 192B, there were still a great many truancy cases‘ to be dealt with, but having at my service the machinery o1 the Juvenile Court, presided over by our very cap- able Judge, His Honor Judge Lnman. coupled with our efficient attorney, ‘ Mr. Heath Strong, and the other ex-‘ ccutive officers of the Society, I found l that I was able to cope with almost‘ all cases of truancy. However, we had ' to deal also with cases other than. truancy, such as theft, destruction of property, etc. by children under six- teen years of ago. In most of those classes the offenders were successfully handled with the exception of one boy, who was committed to the re- formatory Ln Halifax, N. 5., in March last. I may add that there is at present one other boy who should be‘ committed to the Reformat/cry ‘ Halifax also as it seems impossible‘ to correct him of his bad habits.‘ _But unfortunately for our towns and‘ cities our Provincial Government dur-‘ ing llfs last session saw fit to with- draw thc grant which was usually granted to defray the expenses of i throwing the burden on our towns and cities. As we have not got a re- formatory in our own province it ls almost a. problem to deal with delin- quent children and I would wish to express my opinion of the very urgent need of such an institution being founded in this Province. Since school opened in September, with the exception of two boys who now are doing better in attendance at school, I may say that. truancy is almost at the vanishing point. As agent for the Childrerfs Aid Society I may say that a number of calls were made on our Society in the interest of destitute and neglected children. 0f these I investigated four cases in various parts of the country and had these children placed in the St. Vin- cent De Paul Orphanage, Charlotte-l town, and a mother confined to the asylum owing to her being a mental defective. I may add too that owing to the‘ o change in the school books this year Illlllllllllll its? t (i '7, Q< x k , l) ,: , U‘ ‘ ‘\ / "Eflglfli new: Club Bags. . .. . . .$5.00 to $2".00 Dressing Cases... .. 7.50 to $25.00 Hat Cases p.00 to $27.50 Aeropack Combination Hill Case and Dressing Case. $9.50 to 5185f) boys sent to thew institutions thereby‘ Wardrobe Trunks, $23.75 to $85.00 A LADIES’ DRESSES !
