examination of Pownal school wut
held on Monday afternoon, Thu
schoollroom wa`s tastefully decorated
by the teacher and pupils and looked
very Christmassy. There was a re-
cord attendance =o! scholars, (at nn
exam.), only two (enrolled) being ab-
sent, and all looked bright and nap
py, as though they enjoyed going to
school. A number ol ladies and gen-
tlemen were present. The exaniina
tion was conducted by the Rev. E.
L. Weeks, A. A. Moore and the teaclik
er. The pupils acquitted themselves
most ereditably in the diilerent
branches taught, showing curetui and
thorough training. At the close oi
the exercises very coniplirnentary
speeches were made by the gentlemen
present, highly eulogising the popu-
lar and talented young teacher on his
diligence, and the good results shown
for the snort time he has had charge
of the school. Mr. McPhnit in n ten
choice words thanked the speakers
for their kind remarks, and hoped to
make a better showing by thc next
examination. Showing the good
feeling existing- between the teacher
and taught, Miss Winnie Carver and
'Miss Laura Acorn on behalf of tlic
school, presented the teacher with u
handsome Waterman fountain pen.
This came' as quite n surprise, but
Mr. McPhail teelingly thanked the
pupils for the tangible token of their
good will and hoped the pleasant re-
lations now existing would continue.
