News From MAPUS 6) MAPUS is The Mature and Part-Time University Students Association and if you are twenty-four years or older or a part-time student at U.P.E.I., you are automatically a member. MAPUS is here to help you feel part of the university in a way that perhaps only peerscan. We’re here for mutual support all the way through and we’ re here because a lot of people still think that all university students are in theirteens. Not So! Approximately 40% of the student population here at U.P.E.I. are members of MAPUS. MAPUS hasa lounge on campus we would like to call our own. Itis located in Bernardine Hall (lower level) and is equipped with tables and chairs, loung- ing chairs, fridge, stove and sink, microwave and coffeepot. Itisa hang-out for mature and part-time students between classes to have acoffee, grab a sandwich for lunch or supper, share frustrations and successes, socialize or study. Some have even been known to take a nap there. MAPUS has designed a series of 1-hour sessions with busy students in mind. We call it the MAPUS Man- agement Mini-Series. It includes such topics as ‘*How to Manage Stress’’, “‘How to Manage Your Studies’’, ‘‘How to Manage Essay Writing’’, ‘‘Li- brary Research’’, etc. We are able to offer this series free of charge because guest speakers (campus ex- perts) volunteer time. The MAPUS office is located next to the lounge. A part-time staff person is there to answer your ques- tions or point you in the right direction. Youcancall the office anytime 566-0448 with any questions or concerns you may have. You asaMAPUS member have avoice at U.P.E.I. to be heard. If you have and suggestions or ideas for social activities, event, feel free to drop by and talk to the staff person about them. MAPUS has a number of events scheduled before the end of the semester: MAPUS Christmas Party, and the Family Christmas Skate with Santa. Keep your eyes open for the posters around campus or drop by the lounge for further details. The first meeting for the 2nd. Semester is Friday, January 10th atthe lounge.
