Scholarship-- Nov. 15 ian CIMN By Chris McCarron CIMN Station Manager Rodney St. Pierre has a couple of outstanding problems at the station. One of the problems has to do with Island Cablevision. Sometimes (too frequently) Island Cablevision shuts off CIMN’s signal. Island Cable leaves CIMN off all weekend long only to restore service on Monday. Island Cable does this, it claim because CIMN’s signal interferes with another signa broadcasting on Sundays. Since CIMN doesn’t pay for their signal, Island Cable sees CIMN as less important than the other program that runs on Sunda Rodney finds this shut off frustrating because CIM} is working hard to promote itself (newspaper ads, sharp looking T-shirts and a T.V. commercial). Wh is the point of spending money on promotion whent listeners go to tune in, the station is off the air? Th: is entirely the fault of Island Cable Vision. Rodney is currently negotiating a solution with Island Cable A second serious problem has to do with the theft o property belonging to CIMN. An alarming number CD’s, albums and anything else is being stolen fror CIMN. Rodney wants everyone to knowthatthe — station will press charges against anyone caught stealing anything from CIMN. Unfortunately Rodn admits that most of the thievery is being done by a small number of Station volunteers. These people ripping off the station must realize that everyone is paying in their student fees for much of the CDs being stolen. What music is being stolen? Answer every type of music. The most popular music being stolen is prt dictably heavy metal and hardrock. Stufflike Metallica and Guns’n Roses. The new Metallica € was stolen 3 days after it arrive. The Guns’n Ros: - CDs were stolen one week after arrival. UPEI X-P RESS October 31, 1991
