Everywhere you turn people are looking for these elusive relation- ships and real commitments; yet they never seem to find them. WHY? The answer is simple! STAN- DARDS! People have forgotton to live by standards! We, in our technologically advanced West- ern society feel there are no ab- solutes anymore. The only stan- dards are opinion and doing what one feels is right; there is no ob- jective right and wrong anymore. Every discipline has its stan- dards! The engineer has a bench- mark; the business student has profit and loss; the science stu- dent has (at least here on earth) the laws of nature; the math stu- dent has logic; the arts student is guided by the twin lights of rea- son and rhetoric. The lights of these fires purify and test the lit- erary and philosophical works of man. So it seems that human- ity must have standards in every- thing. We, however, have tossed our standards of relationships, com- mitments, and love to the four winds. Now don’t misunderstand me. I do not advocate returning to a sexually repressive society of the past. A society that discrimi- nates on the basis of sex and race. The KEY is to combine our new- found freedoms with our just tra- ditions! If we wish to prevent our lib- erated society from degenerating into total anarchy, we must re- store the sanctity of relationships. Lovers must treat each other with the real love and respect with which they want to be treated in- stead of just satisfying only their physical desires. A MAN must learn to be a GENTLEMAN again! A man must learn to respect a woman as he would respect his best friend. A WOMAN should set standards by which to judge a man! - Look beyond his physical appearance and understand how a man thinks, feels, and treats others around him. If lovers would treat each other as partners with equal, al- though perhaps different, respon- sibilities in a relationship, instead of trying to dominate each other, they would have a little more success with a “LASTING RE- LATIONSHIP”, a marriage, “A REAL COMMITMENT”, a fam- ily! Later the cost will cover publish- ing changes only. No money will be made by me. I’m embarking upon such a venture out of love for literature. As of now I only have an idea, I need material. This is where I desperately need your help. I’m sending this same letter to some thirty odd universities from coast to coast. In each one I’ll be asking for the same thing. A little arti- cle in your paper asking for orig- inal short prose and poetry from the student body. ‘Their work can cover any topic since the publica- tions will be universal in scope. I unfortunately can’t pay them but I will promise a fair and hon- est selection process. If they de- sire their literary work returned please ask them to send a SASE. As students, you must decide whether you consider this to be your family’s residence or the place where you are currently living (if they are two separate places). Make sure you are enumer- ated in the polling division where your “ordinary residence” is located. Your name should then appear on the Voters’ List.
