An excellent programme of music was rendered by the Amherst Band. Dr. Cutten. of Acadia University, presided. Among those on the platform were Sir Robert Borden. Premier Mathieson, Premier G. H. Murray. Premier G. J. Clarke. Hon. C. W. Robinson, of New Brunswick. Hon. Bam Hughes and Very Rev. Dean Lloyd. Sir Borden gave an able address, in which he dwelt at some length on the admirable way in which the British Empire, and Canada in particular, had withstood the shock of the war. He congratulated heartily all those who were responsible for the present move- mentand upon the spirit which had actuated that movement. He hoped that good results would come from it. He spoke of the vast resources oi' thc Maritime Provinces, which were as well circumstanced as any other part of the Dominion, or for thut- matter, of the world. lie spoke 'for nearly an hour, holding the rapt attention of the audience throughout. Island. he said that there was never a time in its history when conditions were better than they are to-day. not- withstanding the universal sllock of the war. The island has had an abun- dant crop that exceeds in value all previous records.
