IN MliMoRIAM.- Miss Nettie John-
stone, of Long River, died on Saturday,
the 8ti inet. The funeral which was
largely attended, there being about 150
sleighs, took placeon Monday. At the
request of her pastor, Rev. Charles Mc-
Kay,'the service was conducted by Rev.
A. Sterling, who preached an able and
impiessive discourse from Rev. 7,
14-17. There are few in this part of
the country better known or more loved
than Miss Johnstone. Her life was a
grand poem full of pathos, sweetness
and simpl.city. Love truly :ook up the
harp of her life, for she delighted in
the luxury of helping others. Tender
in heart, and firm in will; faithful to
friends and gentle to all,she exhibited `a
high type of consecrated life. Sweet
in disposition, cultured in mind re-
fined in manner and susceptible to the
purest emotions, she was an ideal wo-
man. All who came in close *ouch
with her felt the elevating influence of
a noble life. However tender and
charitable to the erring she never
winked at their sin, and her eye could
flash with righteous indignation at any
injustice to others. To say that she
had no enemy would be a doubtful
compliment, but it may oe safely said
that she never gave any just cause for
enmity. Amid the lights and shadows of a
sinful World few have borne the white
lilower of a blamelesslife as Miss Nettie
Johnstone has done. Such a life, how-
ever short, is full of the mellow music
that is set to the love Divine, and must
be a benediction to the world. Miss
Johnstone was the most faithful and
loy al helper in the church of which she
was a consistent member. She was
S -t-retary of the Ladies’ Missionary
S ciety, a Sabbath school teacher,
Superintendent of the Mission Bind and
a member of the Christian Endeavor, as
we_ll as an efficient worker in every
good ciuse. The children loved her,
and only eternity can reveal her loving
iniiuence over them. But her character
was greater than any of her- works,aod,
it all who profess Christ, lived as she
did, there would be less room for the
sneers of the world, and more souis
won for the Master. Those who knew_
her bright and beautiful life have good.
reason to hope thattshe is now inthe
land of eternal love, where no shadows
