When a hockey team loses. the whole community feels let-down and too many defeats can wreck the box oficc. and put the club in the rod. So if the City is to ven- eiiro '.i:to hlarilinic top hockey circles it must have the money- or most of it beforehand--to sur- xlxc the unccrtaiiitics of a debut ycnr. and be in a position to cor- rect weaknesses in the following IFHT. . . . . In the thirties. I few people carried theburdcn; this time two thousand or more Islanders will he asked to help carry the load. it is hoped that enough people will be found throughout the Province, to lend a hand and make the load an easy one to bear. This time too it should be an Island- harkod team with not only Char- lniictown, but all parts of the Province lending support. The final word will rest with the public and its willingness to pay the shot; and only money will decide the question. Our great national pastime is one of the worlds most thrilling sport spen- tacles. perhaps we should back as the Americans do baseball or as the British Isle: does soccer. And while our public was watching high class hockey. our young hockey players mingled in practice sessions with the im- ported men, and a whole new crop of well coached Islanders de- veloped to the stage. where they could step into a hockey game anywhere and know what it was all about. Even after the Big Four team disbanded the in- fluence of good coaching remained for years. and sound hockey tech- nique carried our junior team: into the Canadian semi-finals on several occasions. Thus we had such island born players, as Bucko Trainor, Jonn Squarebriggs. Bert Steele. Tai-key Whitlock. Bucko Whitlock, Tick Williams. Mousie Dowling, Ab Macxinnon. So although the town paid for it's experience with big time hockey, never'.lm- leg some of our youngsters cle- rived dividends and certainly our people saw the best hockey in the world It the time. IN MEMORIAM MR-S. NORMAN P. MMPHEITSON There passed away in her home at Kiimuir on May 16th. Mrs. Nor- man P. MaoPherscm in her 75th year. The late Mrs. Nl'.iwPhei-son had been in poor health for sev- eral years, but her illness. accom- panied at times with much suf- fering. she bore with beautiful christian patience. and all the friends who visited her found her cheerful and resigned to God's will. Mr. and Mrs. Ma.oPherson had had been married fifty-four years, and during which years, she had been a. wonderful home-maker, so that the picture of "The Ideal Woman" in Pi-ovenbs is true in her case. and it can he said: "Her children arise up and call her blessed; her husband also and he praiseth her." The friend and the stranger received a warm welcome and true Highland hospitality in the home. she gave her support to every worthy cause in the commun- ity. Because of her beautiful con- sccrated life. her keen knowledge of the Bible and her bright intel- lect. she rendered invaluable service for many years In the Kilmuir Sunday School and Bible Class.
