» Joék Talk? -U.P;E.I; 31 ACADIA 15 / Putting first'things ~ first, we are happy to re— port that'Our cap was re— turned undamaged! For those puzzled people who may have wasted their time persuing this column last week we may pass on the in— formation that it was a "Cap? that Was taken..... neither a "STAT"nor a VCOPY" as our unfriendly proof reader informed you!! 1Now for.Sports...Around 1:45 on the afternoon of 22 September with an app- arently inept U.P.EJIL squad trailing X by 0-7 we remarked to Paul Durant "It looks like a long cold Fall"...never have/we made a more int accurate prediction for, just at that time some sort of-spark seemed to ignite the Panthers and for the rest of the’game they whaled Hell out of X!! Their enthusiastic drive continued as they beat Dal— “4"”?1.’ N ‘ r . v , I mickey-- place - by JIM CROMBIE GRANT CANVIN SHOWING HIS FORM Photo by DAVE BOAKA THE CADRE, TUES.. NOV. 6, 1973 OUR TWO RUNNING BACKS IN ACTION, OSEKOSKI (WITH-BALL), MYRON (BLOCKING),‘ CANVIN (BACKGROUND) housie, Mount A. and U.N.B. ....but it was never more‘ evident than last Saturday when they humbled a hither- 'to unbeaten Acadia team 31—15. It was a great per- formance and those hardy fans who braved the elem— rents loved every minute of it...While there was so much glory to be shared, we feel it was a team ef— fort that brought victory and we do not feel our— selves competent to pick out any individual as a star. However, in conver- sation with.some of the players, we learn that, aside from the actual play of the game, they felt that that next Spring, when nominations for an Oscar are being made for the "Best Actor of the Year" the name of Luc Bedard should be high on the list!!! We were most convinced and must con- gratulate him on a strong performance. From the re— ports of the game from Mainland media we are sure prised that hordes of sc- ientists, in excess of those coming here for last Summer's total eclipse, are not decending upon this area to investigate one of the most unusual phenomena we have experienced. From what we can learn the bel— ief, on the other side of Northumberland Strait, is' that the Axemen were ham- pered greatly by wind, rafll & mud whereas the Panthers on the same identical field enjoyed a calm day, bright sunshine & solid footing ....that is the way we read & hear it...such nonsensel! The team that accomodated itself to the conditions existing on the field at game time deserved to win ...and did. With all that ‘aside we also belieVe that the Panthers would have won last Saturday had the game been played in the Sahara.' . ~ ' ‘ ‘ Good Lord...Keep<the Panth— ers going. Photo by DAVE BOAK U.P.E.I. 4 Loyola 4 "Will the REAL Hockey Panther Team please star up." Last week we very cautiously reserved judg ment on the Panther hoc} team after a somewhat lackadaisical performanc against Sir George Willi & on Sunday, we were ple antly surprised when, M& seemed to be‘a complete] different team, skated t a 4—4 tie with what was reputed to be a much str er Loyola team. The Pant ers skated and passed we hit hard and backcheckeé furiously. Those laments few fans who kept the fa and attended this game M well rewarded as the Pan ers deserved no less the a tie with one of the tc rated college teams in t country. We were very er couraged by the Panthers performance and we belie we can assure ourjfans, who may have been appre- hensive after the S.G.W. game, that we can look f ward to an interesting a exciting season. ‘Good Lord..Keep the Pant ers goingl! Last week we expressed mild criticism of the Debating Scoeity becaue they scheduled an inter esting débate at the sa time a hockey game was being played. Promptly after publication we we visited by one of their representatives and ask if we were so intereste* 'would we act as a judge in the next debates.... With this in mind we now ‘state that, in our opins ion, staging a bathing beauty contest at half time during a football game would be ridiculous.: we will be at our desk all next week in antic- ipation of invitations. Good Lord, PLEASE keep the Panthers«going!!!!!
