Owing to the warm spell the iwovi-::ic:it of stock from the surroun- ding country is beginning to be strong, but the demand has so far more than outstripped the supply.` lThe present rise gives color to the belief of the more optimistic, some of whom have been so bold as to say that before the end of the winter Ar- oostook potatoes will be bringing he- tweeii $6 and $7 per barrel. The rise in the market here has affected the general trade and Houl- ton merchants are looking forward to plenty of business. ` Minard’s Liniment Co., Limited. _ Gentlemen,- Theodore Dorals, a customer of mine, was completely cured of rheumatism, after ilve years of suffering, by the' judicious use of MINARD’S LINIMENT. Wood‘, Kensington, has received the following letter from her husband, who went with the 105th Battalion, and is now somewhere in France: PPte. Lemuel Wood, No. 712812, 14th Battalion, Somewhere in France. December 19, 1916. My dear wife Lllla.-It is with plea~ sure that .I write you once more. I am well. and hope this letter finds you and little daughter the same. This is Sunday night and Iliave been work- ing hard all day, but Sunday is no more than any other day. You think it hard. but it is nothing lin time of war. I am getting along line since I came to France. -and' am still at the Canadian base. All* of the two. drafts from the 105th have gone up to the line with the exception of 20 of ns, and we expect to go soon. I tell you, France is- some line country. No wonder the Germans wanted to get lt. Looks a lot like dear old P. E. I., but Franco has the lovellest cities. I was up to the city last night, got ii pass' .from 2 p.m. till 8 p.m. No soldiers are allowed' in the city after 8 p.m. on pass. I sup- pose you have heard' of fthe great vic- tory the French had on the Verdun front last Friday. There were 9000 prisoners. 81 guns and ii large strip if trenches. I have `seen some of the prisoners myself, I tell you; they are used hero as good as we are. They have all they can eat and nothing to do. I have watched' them doing- their own cooking, and' there are some line looking men among them. Our oillcers of the 105th were pret- ty down-hearted to tee us go to France. The night before we left Whitley Camp. Engiand,,the officers gave us some good time, and our dear Col. ings gave us an address at the close. He told us if any got wounded and' came to England he and his wife would come to seg us. and do all in his power for ua'. I must soy that Captain Stewart is a line fellow. 1-le S Gu lien e representative iii Montague. G ..~PETEn's no/ua.-oi. ri~nni_v.
