Stranger than fiction is the riory told of an aged man on his way from Victoria, 8. C., to Utrecht, Holland. to be the sub- ject of an experiment. His heart will be replaced by a mechanical pump. The heart pump was developed by professor Jongbloed, who is reported to have conducted suc- cessful heart operations on an- imals. The man undergoing this experiment wishes to have his name withheld as he has signed a contract with the professor ah- solving him from blame if he failed to survive the operation. A good female slave sells for 514 to 550 in Canadian money- depending on market conditions and the age of the gal. Since the war, boy slaves have been pur- chased by Jap farmers in increas- ing numbers. Most of these human slaves come from the poorer districts. and are taken to lhe cities for distribution to brokers who nre,ln touch with prospective buyers, which reminds us that one half at the world never knows what the other half are doing.
