_— a A New Heart. An anecdote was pubiished many | years ago, concerning the Indian Chief Teedyuscung, king of the Delowares. One evening he was sitting at the fire- side of afriend. Both of them were silently looking at the fire, indulging their own reflections. At length the silence was broken by the friend, who | said. “ 1 will tell you what I have been | thinking of. I have been thinking of « ruledelivered by the author of the Christian religion, which from its excellence, we call the golden rule,” Stop,” said Teedyuscung, “don't yraise it to me, but rather tell me what itis, and let me thiok for myself. | do not wish you to tell me of its excellence ; tell me what it tor “It is for one man to do to another as he would have the other one do to him.” “That’s impossible; it can’t be done,” Teedyuscung immediately replied, Silence again ensued. Teed- yuscung lighted his pipe and walked about theroom. Inabout a quarter of ap hour he came to his friend with a smiling countenance, and taking the pipe from his moutb, said “ Brother, [have been thoughtful of what you have told me. If the Great Spirit that made man would give him a new heart, he could do as yon say, but not else.” Thus the Indian found the only means by which man can fulfil his social duties. Mind These Stops. A Scotch exchange says: Stop sbirk- ing your duties. Stop neglecting to re- turn borrowed books. Stop iodulging in more than 100 pounds of self conceit to the square inch. Stop supposing that the'world could not get along pretty well without you. Stop looking atthe dark side of life. Stop giving way to fault finding. Stop furnishing your friends with the full particulars of your bodily ailments. Stogtaking pessimistic views of men, things and the theory of the universe. Stop working too hard, Stop working not hard enough. Stop writing to famous men for their auto- graphs. Stop procrastinating. Stop sending to newspapers “ something I’ve just dashed off and haven’t stopped to correct. ” Stop telling a busy man, * I know you're busy, sol'll only keep you a minute,” as a prelude to an hour and a half’s attempt to talk his arm off. -- -_ <--> =~ Local Notices. NASAL BALM Torrennam, OntT., May 3rd, 1887. I have been troubled with nasal catarrh for the last five years. Seeing Nasal Balm ad- vertised I procured a bottle, and although I have only used part of it, ] do not hesitate to pronounce it the best remedy in the world for that loathsome disease, Catarrh. It is easy and pleasant to use, soothiag and healing in its action, instant in giving relief, removes and changes the poisonous secretions toa healthy state, stops the droppings from the head into the throat, and removes a}l the symptoms of Catarrh and Cold in the Head In fact, if the directions are faithfully followed, nothing result.
