Nevertheless it has been the constant teaching of the Christian Church that God took to Himself a human nature that, inthe language of a human, He might give expression to the di- vine; that He might establish for Himself a place in man’s world, that He might “pitch His tent” among them. HUMAN YET DIVINE From the very beginning, how- ever, there have been people who found the human in Christ to.be an obstacle in accepting the di- vine. In the trial before the San- hedrin the high priest challeng- ed him: “I adjure Thee by the living God that Thou tell us whe- ther Thou art the Christ the Son of God.” When the Saviour testified that He was, the high priest tore his garments, saying, “He ha.s blas- phemed; what further need have ye of witnesses? Behold now you have heard the blasphemy. What think you?” And they answered and said, “He is des rviing of death.” (Matt. 26, 62- 7). These people, you see, would concede His divinity only by denying His humanity. We see St. John struggling with this mentality’ in his emphatic proclamation that the Word Who was in the beginning, Who was with God, and Who was God, is the same God, “Who was made flesh and dwelt amongst us.’ (John 1, 14). Miss Matheson referred to qual- ity and quantity of teachers, and it was noted once again that a good deal ct money properly spent could remove many of the ills in our present educational setup. The speaker pointed out that, as in industry, greater incentive must be forthcoming, if compe- tent persons with sufficient fit- ness and ability will .be persuad- ed to enter and continue in the profession. To this end individ- uals as well as municipal Pro- vincial, and Federal Goverm ;ents must accept their responsibility of providing more money for edu- cation.
