Page 10 March 4, 2009 SPORTS PANTHER POST Men strut their stuff for the IWK Hospital Drag Pageant By Kate VanGerven Panther Post The IWK Hospital in Hali- fax is one that all Maritime families may need at least once in their life. The IWK is now in its 100th year of service and is receiving tons of support from Maritime radio stations and more importantly from UPEI and UPEI Athletics. On Feb. 25, McMillan Hall housed a number of innocent bystanders and judges Ange- la Marchbank, Janice Rob- ertson and Dean Lund for the first IWK Male Pageant. Donations were accepted throughout the evening, and it wouldn’t have been sur- prising to see bills stuffed in the participants’ garters, be- cause yes, there were garters worn. The pageant was broken ~ into three categories: Bar Wear, Sleepwear and Formal Wear. Although, the catego- ries seemed to overlap an awful lot. For this reason, I’ve decided to award prizes on behalf of the Panther Post for your reading pleasure: Show Stealers: Miss De- manda Tension, representing Rugby was a personal favou- rite. The only contestant who dared to wear heels, Miss Demanda worked the stage like a pro. Responding to the question “What size are you anyways?” with “what size do you want me to be” cemented the fact that De- manda was a true lady. For wearing heels and working them, Demanda re- ceives the Flaunt it if ya got it award. Miss Timeout stood out from the rest in a whole dif- ferent way. Well, technically she/he laid out from the rest. Draping her/his scantily clad body across the judges table with a surprising amount of class, Miss Timeout was one step away from the water soaked performance in Flashdance. Therefore, Miss Timeout is awarded the Flashdance Award. Formal wear saw Miss Field Hockey in a floor length dress complete with acces- sories. Namely, an upright vacuum. Pushing the vacu- um across the stage looking half-impressed with himself/ herself and half-petrified of offending the mass amount of females in the crowd, Miss Field Hockey strutted as well as possible under the circumstances. In the sleepwear category, Miss Field Hockey made another statement by wear- ing a glorified homemade thong. For the outright show of sexism and bum, Miss Field Hockey is awarded the award of Shemale with the Most Cheek. Figuratively and literally. Woman’s soccer contestant, Ms. Wanna-hump-a-lot and men’s soccer contestant Ms. Ruby win a coveted joint award of Best Dance Perfor- mance as well as sharing the award of Worst Imperson- ation of a Female Voice. Congratulations to all of the Panther Post Winners, and to the rest of you, don’t lose faith because Lynn Bou- dreau, one of the people re- sponsible for pulling every- thing together says “we will look to do it again for sure!” For an event that came to- gether in a short 48 hours, it was a huge success raising $805. Donations are still being accepted at the Sports Centre so stop by and do your part. Girls just wanna have fun is a famous cliché taken very seriously between females everywhere. Little did we know that boys would even- tually want in on the action. “Miss Wanna-Hump-A-lot” from soccer struts her stuff for the more-than-willing crowd. VanGerven photo
