It appears.that in spite of the vigilance of the Scott Act authorities a worthy lady of that place dispenses the prohibited elixer to the needy ones who have the necessary equivalent of cash. Ona certain day last week trade was particularly brisk and the water in which the glasses were washed bore a pro- nounced alcoholic flavor towards the close of the day. Next morning the lady used this water in mixing food for her hens. Judge of ber surprise a few minutes later at going to the barnyard and finding the rooster and four of the best hens lying : an attitude of death. Taking the apparently dead fowls in- side she plucked the feathers off, and threw the earthly tenements behind the barn. Whether the ae had a sobering effect or not is not known, but in an hour the birds regained consciousness and may now be seen strutting about gorgeously arrayed in full suits of clothes, made by.the woman under a fit of penitence.—Sackville. Tue originator of Estey’s Emulsion spent several gears of his life in perfecting this preparation. Not a bottle of it was put on the market until he was satisfied that it was the best ever introduced for the cure of coughs, colds, bronchitis and all wasting diseases. Thousands of bottles have been sold, and he has never heard a complaint regarding it. jan2 lm d&w When you borrow money you borrow trouble, but at the same time you some- times increase the trouble of the fellow who lends it to you. © Estey’s Iron Tonic works like magic, reaching every part of the human body through the blood, giving to all renewed life and vigor. feb2 Im Drinking to a friend’s health is bad medi- cine for you own, pian i otE a ell ALL tobacco except the finest Virginia has a pungent effect upon the tongue and will smart itifthe smoking is long continued.
