We have been favored by Sergeant McKinuon with the following letter from his Son in Law Sergeant Billings of the 38th Regiment, now before Sebastopol. The letter is of very recent date and coming from a person who was well known in the Island, will be doubly interesting. British Camp before Sebaiitopol, 12th December, 1854. My Dear Father ; ° ' ' ° You of course have heard of our laying siege to Sebastopol ; it is I assure you a very tough job, the Russians are making a great stand, we landed on the 14th September and were en a ed in the terrible action on the Alma on the ' t Septem er : we marched again on the 23d, the enemy retreating every day before us, and [giving up positions that a good general woul not lose, however we arrived after a most harassing march (the greatest want being water) before Sebasto ; on the 17th October we opened fire for the first time, can ive no idea of that day, imagine about 1600 heavy guns roaring and raining shot and shell in every slirectiou, indeed) than gay our Re imcnt foun a ver warm ert ; ut thank Gigod I was spared, ivyhen hundreds were strewed and smashed in every direction. since then we have continued every day hammering each other; the town (ii. most splendid one) is in ruins, our lleet gives them no peace on the sea side, and we on the land ; on the 26th Oc- tober the enemy tried our rear and were foiled, as all the country behind us is all open, it is what you would call in America a rolling prplrie, there is little culltiynlgop ‘except in the va e s, which are most is ig tu spots, every- thingytliat you could name grows here, but now the winter has set in, the cold is nearly as bad as in America, thanks to my being in America so lon ,[ am able to hear it pretty well ; since the 2~Itli of Apri‘I_ last, Iliave not bqpn in a bed or under a roof or 5 minutes toget er, we have lain out for weeks at a time exposed to ever kind of weather, never taking anything olf but pur boolps and them we pgased uqger our head ora i ow; on the 5th 0 L ovein r, tie enem madepanother attack on our right at Inkermanll they were beaten in every direction, and they ran for it, leaving 9,000 dead and wounded on lleld, next day we turned out to bur their I.Ii.'MI zndd our own dead vpheu the cowilir I5 wifitr;-_hes re on our men w on so em eye . .e ore you receive this, I1 expect tpe sieplgcdwill belovcr, the town must fal , it is escri e as a a ue house, no one to bury the dead, water ispllgs a allon and the corpses are rotting in the streets ; ed help the poor inhabitants. Lord Raglan our commander sent Prince Menschikolf the Russian General ivord to send out the women and children, but he would not, so they will have to take their chance when the place falls, it is nothing but a rain, their houses are tumbled about, day and night we give them no rest; the country supplies us with nothing, all vac gpt is fron} the shippingf; we liaveflopt hal t e iorses o the arm or want 0 ora . To riis: Enirea or II.isz.iiin‘s Gazrrru Sir,—ln one of your recent pers, I saw that Dennis Reddiii, Esquire, J. for Queen’s ‘ounty, was convicted and sentenced to y a line to the Queen, of 'I‘hirt -live Poun s for obstructing an oliicer of Justice in the execu- tiun of his duty; and that the Ilon. George Coles, Esquire,.l. P. for three Counties, was also convicted and sentenced to ay a fine of £15 for a breach of the Peace. Sut I have not ' yet seen that either of these individuals were either dismissed from their oliices, or that they had resigned. My reason for troubling on on no occasion is, to enquire if these in ividu- als still hold their positions as J.
