Jenkins Turns Back With- out Mishap. Word was received yesterday af- ternoon that Mrs. J. 5. JBllkins, who left Montreal at 12.45 A. S. T., on a non-stop flight to Charlottetown, had turned back, owing to stormy weather conditions, and had rcach- ed Montreal safely. Piloting the latest model Puss Moth plane, and with a navigator as passenger, Mrs. Jenkins took off from St. Hubert Flying Field expecting to arrive in Charlottetown between 5 and 6 p. m. The plane made 135 miles an holu" for the first two hours. When over the State of Maine bad weather was encountered, and it, was decided wisely, to abandon the attempt ior ‘ the time being. The return flight to Montreal, as already stated, was made without mishap. | This is the first attempted non- stop flight from Montreal to Char- lottetown, and Mm. Jenkins is thc first Island lady to fly and own her private aeroplane. Shc took delivery of the plane from the Dc Havlland Company of Toronto last Monday at noon and later in the day flew her young son, Jackie, to school ln Welland. On Tuesday, Mrs. Jenkins flew to Montreal, preparatory to taking ofl for the Island. By speclul permis- sion of the authorities in Ottawa. slic had the ICQISLZIUOH lcttms of the plane changed ‘from A. G. V.. the factory lettering, to P. E. 1. Mrs. Jenkins appreciated this courtesy and flew from Toronto to Ottawa. to personally thank the aeronautic authorities there. She arrived in Montreal Wednes- day, but weather conditions fork-ale making the attempt to reach tht island. The plane is a cabin Puss Moth, I of the same type as that flown by the Prince of Wales and iclentica. wlth_ the one in which l-linklcy flcu the Southern Atlantic last year. The initiative of Mrs. Jenkins in buying her own plane and flying it herself will give Prince Edward 1s- znd valuable publioty. Sometime n March she proposes to make a .our of the United Statss, stopping at various large cities all over thc country. , The mail plane also was obliged to turn back at Tormcntine yester- day, owing to weather conditions. This fact was wired to Mrs. Jenkins but she evidently did not rccrivlc t message before she took off. iEllTliitl. lilllillllliilt I ABBIES VS.
