Playing Bryce Cardigan. in Peter B. Kynes great story oi the Red- woods, “The Valley of the Giants" at the Prince Edward Theatre this iveek, Sills surpasses any of his past performances. and gives a. remark- able characterization. The executive extends a hearty invitation to any iévgtie would carc to visit them at any l . story of the lumber industry on the Pacific Coast and of a romance that grows out of rivalry between two rival lumber barons. The story by Kyne was an interesting and en- thraillng one, and in bringing it to the screen First. National Pictures has lost none of the beauty and romance of the original. In beautiful settings amid the giant trees of the Pacific Northwest, this graphic story is unfolded in a manner that holds interest from start to finish. There is conflict, struggle and action throughout, and one of the most. thrilling scenes ever thrown on the screen is provided in the wreck of the logging train, which plunges down a mountain- side, breaking away the engine, run- ning into a sharp curve, and over a sixty foot clifi into a river. The scene has never been duplicated for the motion picture camera. and is ahrilling in the extreme. Sills is supported by a fine cast, including Doris Kenyon, the char- ming and talented featured player who plays opposite him. Paul Hurst gives a good performance as .he "heavy" and the cast includes Arthur Stone, Phil Brady, Yola cPAvril, Charles Sellon, and many others. Much of the picture was photographed in the Big Trees country of California, and the scenes are particularly beautiful. The direction by Charles Brabin is excellent. " Valley of the Giants" is super entertainment. and another rgreat picture from Milton Sills. The new serial "The Trail of the rigor" starts oil with a bang and "lromises good entertainment for the next ten weeks. —»-—-——~{O>- VIBTURIAS WIN ISlANB BWSHIP (Special to the Guardian) Siliiiliilfltsiill}, Iiilirch Si. - By BALTIIASAR HUEBMAIER.
