Thus a demand was created which caused the rise, aud as stecks on band are not heavy, firmness is expected to continue tor a time. Burned $0. Death. Pinxerte and vicinity was on Tuesday murning shocked by the news of Mr. Wil- lam Chaissen’s terrible death on board the echooner Pursuit. This vessel, of about twenty-four tons, was moored at Pinette Whart, and was sailed by her owner (Capt. Mclunis) and the deceased, who, on Mun- day, was eugaged at making fences on the farm of the Captain. He went on board the vessel late iu the eveniny, and at nine veclock a gentlewan who visited the schooner reports him in the cabin actively engaged weuding his clothing alongside a heavy fire im the cabin stove. It is sup- posed that after completing his work he went asleep in the bunk and the vessel wek fire irom the defective stove. No one in the settlement during the night saw the fire or knew anything of it until morning, when his bones were found ia the debris ot the scheoner by those having business at the wharf. Mr Chaisson belongs to Rollo Bay. He Was a man of about sixty years of age. He isaves a wife and family of four children to wtally destroyed. A Bad Death. Said the Seythian ambassadors to Alex- ander, “ii your person were as vast as your ambition the worlt would not contain you.” We have now @ conqueror whose ambition is as boundless as Alexander’s. The eld world was too narrow a sphere for its exercise. We refer to Professor Hol- loway, whuse desire to benefit mankind, unsated by the countless cures bis medicines have asecumpisshed, is nuw actively engaged in revolutiumizing the treatment of disease. Conquest and sui jugation are its objects— the conquest and subjugation of the various maladies that affliot the human race. The trophies of hia skull are to be found in every region of theesrth. It has heretofure been the universal complaint against even the most popular medieines that they were mere palliatives, relieving pain temporarily, perhaps, but never reaching the ‘‘ materies morbi,” or element of disease in the bleed. Holioway’s Pills, on the contrary, act spe- citically upon the primary cause of the mal- ady in the fluids of the body, and from which they spring. In external disease the Uiutment is as an auxiliary to the Pills, and its sanitive effects are scarcely jeas wonderful. We make these assertions—bold as they may seem—on sclid grounds. We have warrant for them in the statements of standard medical periodicals, in the pub- lished acknowledgments of thousands of grateful convalescents, and last, but net least, so far as our private convictions are concerned, in our own personal experience and observation. To the man whose profound research and practical skill in medieal science have re- sulted in the production of such unequal- jed curatives, and whese energy and enter- prise have diffused them through every inhabited region between the Equator and the Poles, the homage of the world is due. Paris, May 10. The war in Tunis, which appeared to be almost terminated by the occupation of the Kroumir stronghold at Sidi Abdullah Ben d’Jemel, threatens to be eovsiderably and unexpectedly prolonged. According to a special received by the “ Figaro,” the Bey instigated, presumably by Maccio, and stung to exasperation by iuvasion of his territory, sent a letter to the Oside, de nouncing the French as traitors, aud en- couraging them to resist their advanee. In bis letter he asserts that Turkey is backed by Germany, and Italy is prepared tw sup- pert Tunis. The evnsequence of this epistolary folly may eventually be no less agreeable to Mahomed El Sadok than to the French.
