     Encouraged by the strength o! 
     
     the New York market most groups 
     
     were firm on the Toronto exchange 
     
     today but the golds moved along 
     
     on the downward course alone, 
     
     dropping .50 in the index to close 
     
     at a new low {or eight years. Sev- 
     
     eral golds, inciuding both firm gnd 
     
     weak issues, traded 1:1 quite heavy 
     
     volume and segregate turnover for 
     
     the dav was 146,000 shares. the 
     
     heaviest action since February l9. 
     
    

    
     Industrials were practically un- 
     
     changed in the average at the close. 
     
    

    
     Several oi’ the medium-price golds 
     
     hit new low levels. ‘leek I hes 
     
     at 1.87 was down 6 cents, right- 
     
     Hargreaves set a new low at 2.10 
     
     and closed at 2.12, off 8 cents and 
     
     losses of 3 to 8 cents were netted 
     
     by Kerr-Addison, East Maiartic. 
     
     Kirkland-Hudson, Preston and sen 
     
     Antonio and losses of 10 w 15 cenm 
     
     were netted by Lake Slore, Bui- 
     
     falo-Ankerito and Aunor. Upper 
     
     Canada weakened 4 cents to 7s 
     
     for small blocks and Beattie was 
     
     rlcwn 2 to 70. Coniaurum closed at 
     
     70. off l2 cents for board lots
