     to accept free soup and bread offered 
     
     by charitable organizations such as 
     
     the Salvation Army. ' 
     
    

    
     What does that have to \do with 
     
     1985 and the UPEI Student Union? 
     
    

    
     Lack of jobs — that’s the common 
     
     denominator. 
     
    

    
     The federal government has 
     
     chopped $85 million from their youth 
     
     job creation programs this year. In 
     
     Prince Edward Island, that’s about 
     
     600 less jobs with Summer Canada 
     
     Works, and Summer Career Access 
     
     Programs. 
     
    

    
     When you graduate, and if you are 
     
     unemployed and ineligible for govern- 
     
     ment assistance, you too may be 
     
     standing, in the soup lines in the 80’s. 
     
     And the 90’s.
