Hoql The “second car" is something that many a. family ls thinking about these days when it becomes neces- sary that the whole group be motor- ized. I have an idea. to advance on the subject that several of my friends have tried and found remarkably successful. . Broadly, it may b esummed up as: "raid the used car market." The term “rall-l" seems to be used advisedly for some of the bargains ofiered are such that; One feels he actually is "raiding" the place. It would secm inevitable that, with so many good looking new cars on the market, there must. have been some mighty handsome older models lll. excellent condition traded lnon them. Thai. is the case and. the way tn see it to the fullest advantage is lo take la. tour along the used car row. Woman. with her well known shop- ping instinct, should not miss this splendid opportunity. My first Journey, which was a rev- elation, was made with one of my suburban neighbors who "wanted a car but. who did not have enough money to buy a new model of the make she desired. She was paying 60 cents bus flare for her three chil- men's transportation to school each day, and both herself and the young- sters were putting up_wlth the in- portstlon. The husband was not be- ing selfish about the family's one car. He simply had to have ll: in his business. We talked about; the situation from lune to time and finally we decided to go used car shopping. The trip was one surprise after another. The wide variety of cars we inspected included many that were good looking, in excellent me- chanical condition, and amazingly low in price. The only way I can ex- plain the "used car problem" is that; people with too little money to buy a new cor do not: know what a fins automobile the money they do have Do You Value Health ? l Sickness Almost Always Duo to Weak, Watery Blood ‘ If your health is poor; if you are . pale, nervous and easily tired: lf you‘ i puller from headaches or bsckaches; l ' if there are touches of indigestion, or twlngcs of rheumatism, you may de- pend upon 1t that these ‘symptoms- colne from an impoverished conditlonj of the blood, and that unless this con- dltlon ls remedied a complete break-T down may follow. Ind other docpmeqtg deposit b6; will fill! liidfi-Tfl" will buy in the used car market. Of the various bargain. we looked at. our purchase turned up ln a three- year old coach model of l company that slwayshas turned out good looking cars. Originally the car de- livered for around $1,450. My neigh- bor paid $475 for it, and it had had less than 20,000 miles cf use-and good use, too. At one full swoop, a really serious transportation problem was solved. 1 doubt that I ever saw $475 applied to better effect. The B0 cents a day that once went for the children's transportation now more than pro- vides fuel and maintenance for the ariln which the mother takes them to and from school, and certatlnly the flexibility it brings into the family's movements ls quite as wonderful as they think. This incident started s big “used car, second car" fashion in our su- burb and more families have been completely and inexpensively motor-l lzed than are not enjoying the bene- fits ot two-car transportation. One family, going further than the rest. used the process to buy two cars right of! the‘ reel. They had been sav- ing their money to get one new csr but with the whole neighborhood suddenly going "two-car minded," they got one new car for family use, and one used car for the husband to use during the day. No one can come. into our small suburb and tell us that, maintaining two curs ls too heavy a drain finan- cially. We have tried it and we know the facts where he would be deal- ing in fancies. It costs money, to be sure, ,but it is money that we all know ls wisely spent. STOCK QUOTATIONS, HALIFAX, May l7.—Quotnti0ns furnished by Johnston and Ward Members Montreal Stock Exchange.
