I then set out one acre each spring for several years and again increased my planting to two acres each spring, keeping the plantations free from weeds and top dressing in the fall_ Kept importing new varieties and discarding all unsuitable ones. Took three crops from each plant- ing before plowing down. Had from 4 to 6 acres producing berries includ- ing tlie Old plantation. The second crop generally was the best_ In twenty-'ilve years never had a fall ure although some seasons gave great- er returns than others, but the poor- est crop I ever had was a good re~ turn and the best paying farm crop I ever raised. Tile smallest yield in ,twenty years was 30,000 boxes. whilst it often exceeded 60.000 and the last iyear I was in the business my sales lwere over 70,000 boxes.
