IR£fthere is one thing more than another which brings out and shows to the full the innate energy and power of a people, it is action which is not ily the proof of their present greatness, but the guarantee of their future greatness. It is that they will set themselves together in a united effort to i vanquish overcome ana nature, and to rise in spite of that to national greatness and prosperity. That argument, therefore, is not a satlicient one to show why we should introduce this heroic method. The next argument troduced was this: gentleman in- that we had noother which the hon NATURAL MARKET, and my hon. friend from Prince Edward I: jiand (Mr. Davies) reiterated that idea. What do they mean by a natural market? Is it no* quite possible that this phrase should be used without meaning? What is the natural mat ket fora country? Is it a geographical ma ket? By uo means. If that “were true, the natural market for Great Britain would be France, which lies closest to it, as we all know, bu* we also know that there is not the Great Britain and France as there is b Britain and coun tries which lie iousaads and thousands of milesaway. If that statement were true, Great Britain's trade would not have extent ed, a3 it hav done, t» India, to China, to Japan and to every country in the wide world. A natural market, it seems to me, is a market in whieh you can place things which are de manded by that country and which are not produced, or are aot produced in sufficient quantity by that country. Thatis the natural market for your country, and so it came to pass that the West Indies are more ofa natural market for Halifax or for Nova Seotia than the Provinee ot New Brunswick, which lies close beside them ; and so it happens that countries which are the diameter of the world apart are more of of a natutal market than those which lie contiguous to each other. same trifiic bel wee tween trreat (To be Continued. ) Lecal Notices.
