lewis, Frank Quinn and Sydney
Green. Service at the grave was
conducted by Rev. Louis Dougan.
The Knights of Columbus of which
the deceased was a member, pre-
ceded the hearss. ' -

The annual cemetery memorial
services of the Canadian legion
were held yesterday afternoon at
the ‘various cemeteries adjacent to
the city. Headed by the legion
Band, about two hundred veterans,

branch, with Comrade Arthur King
bearing the colours, left the Home
at 2 o'clook and marched to the
Great War and south African war
monuments on Queen Square.
Wreaths were placed on the monu-
ments. and the Last Post was soun-
ded by Bugier Whiston Smith. `,
On completion of the ceremony,
the parade proceeded to the Roman
Catholic Cemetery, where Rev, ra-
ther Maclntyre and the Man’s Choir
of St. Dunstan's Basilica sang the

A sad accident occurred over the
week-end at Murray Harbor when
Mr. Rankin Bell met his dead: by
imwuinir. The deceased who een-
luuted a sa-use and forge at Mur-
[IY Harbour. was last seen alive s-
oout 9.30 Saturday evening.
His body was found early yester-
day afternoon in about ~a foot of
water. two hundred yards below
the bridge at Murray River. Im-‘
mediately an R. C. M. P. ccnstablel
was summoned and Dr. Brehaut
and Dr. T. V. Grant the Coroner,
were sent for. It was decided that
an inquest was unnecessary.
The late Mr. Bell was about
thirty-five years of age~ His wife
prcdzcefsed him, but five small
children survive. The untimely
death of their father has caused V
widespread regret throughout Mur-
ray. Harbour and surrounding dis-

University specializes in Economics
and Political Science.. which is the
course Mr. Weeks ,is taking. He is
Rhodes Scholar for New Brunswick
for 1933. He had a. most brilliant
career at Mt. Allison from which

class honors in Economics.

MCLEOD OF VICTORIA-There
passed away at her home at Vic-
toria on Friday last Minnie Mc-
Leod, beloved wife of Joseph Mc-
Leod, at the age of sixty years.
Mrs. McLeod was a native cf Green
Bay and for some years after her
marriage had lived in North River.
About fifteen years ago the fam-
ily came to Victor-ia,_where Mr.
McLeod opened a blacksmith shop.
Mrs. McLeod through her kind
hospitable ways and fine christian
character made many friends. Be-
sides her husband there are left to
mourn two daughters, Mrs. Nor-
man Boulter of Victoria and Mrs.
Albert Eilhison. residihl in the
United States, and five sons, Wil-
liam, George, James, Daniel and
Louis J., all at home; four grand-
children, Keith, John, Florence and
Alba Boulter; two brothers, Wil-
liam Cass, of Churchill. P. l. I-.
and Robert Gass of Greenbay,
P. E. I.; also one sister, Mrs.
I-iarding Smith, in the United
States, to all of whom much sym-
pathy is extended. The funeral was
held on Saturday afternoon from
her late home to the People's Cem-
etery at Crapaud, and was very
largely attended, Rev. George

side, to all of whom sympathy is
extended. The funeral takes place
on Sunday at 2 p. m. from the
home of Mrs. leigh Mountain to
the Cemetery at Central Lot 16.

The Catholicstudents of P. W. C.,
about 50 in number, gathered at the
Knights of Columbus Hall on Thurs-
day afternoon, Oct. sth, for the pur-
pose of organizing the Collegiate
Club. Mrs. J. W. McInty're,` past
president of the National Catholic
Women's League, was present and
in a few brief words outlined the ob-
jects of the Club. Mrs. J. W. Mc-
Intyre was elected Honorary Presl-
dent. A nominating committee was
.selected who retired to an adjoining

the Carnegie Library Demonstra-
tion, has returned from New York
City where she had a conference

terested in Miss Bateson's report
on the progress made in the pro-

Edward Island is a good unit for

FIRE LOSS AT NEW HAVEN_

stroyed Mr. Angus MacPhee’s res.
is estimated at $2,500, partly cov-
ered by insurance. Mr. McPhee, with
hired help, was working in an
adjoining field when he noticed
flames bursting from the kitchen
roof, Mrs. McPhee being alone in
the house at the time.
-INTERESTING EXPERIENCE
-Mr. and Mrs. Morley M. Bell, of
Summerside, have ,lust returned
from a few days visit to Moncton,
N. B. While there they had an in-
teresting experience. Just about
five miles past the car shops at
Moncton on the Georgetown Road
‘is a slight incline of about two
hundred yards which the people of
the district have named "Electric
Hill." It was discovered during the
later part of this summer that an
automobile upon reaching the bot-
tom of the incline would he drawn
up the hill with the engine shut off
gaining in velocity as it ascended;
on the otherihand if upon reaching
the bottom one wished to go on up
the opposite incline, there appeared
to be an unseen force holding back
the car, so much so that it is with
difficulty that the driver can make
the grade in "higl1." Mr. Bell says
several people have noticed this
strange phenomenon and it has been
commented upon in the pies, but so
far no one has found out Just what
causes it. Mr. Bell could hardly be-
lieve the story so his host, Dr. Don-
ald of Moncton drove him to the
place to experience the unusual oc-
currence for himself and Mr. Bcil
is now convinced that there is some-
thing strange about that part of
New Brunswick.-S. ' l
