HENRY CHARACTER AGAIN ' ENCIIANTS FANS l l“The Valiant Hombre." t i i That romantic Robin Hood of the Plains. The Cisco Kid, is due to make his appearance again on the screen of the Empire Theatre, now showing through United Artists re- lease, with handsome Duncan Ren- aldo playing the famous 0. Henry character. The picture is called and has that delightful actor, Leo Carrillo, in the role of easy-going Pancho. who follows Clsco into a steady stream of adventures. TRAYS KILLERS “RIM OF CANYON" AUTRY IN "Rim of the Canyon." starring Gene Autry. now showing at the Capitol Theatre. The new Colum- bia picture gives Autry his first dual role; he appears as himself, a range rider, and as Sheriff Steve Autry, his own father. In the fllm. Gene tangles with killers escaped from the jail in which they have been placed by Sheriff Steve two decades earlier. Champion, world's wonder horse. figures prominently in “Rim o! the Canyon." Featured players include Nan Leslie, Thurston Hall and Clem Bevans. “Rim of the Canyon" was directed by John English from John K Butler's screen play. Ann- and Schafer produced the film. “TAKE ME OUT T0 THE BALL GAlVlE“ AT PRINCE EDWARD With the excitement and color of a big-league ball park as its back- nurnber of suitable selections, af- ter which the Rev. Sidney J. Boyce voiced the sentiments of all present in congratulating Ml‘. and Mrs. MacLaren on having reached this “Golden Milestone" and wishing ihm many more years of health a d happiness. A suitable address was read by Mr. Douglas MacLaren of Montague. after which a handsome gift was presented to the happy couple, Mr. MacLaren made a gracious and witty reply. Delicious refresh- ments were served, including a wedding cake with a miniature bride and groom on the icing. To the strains of-Auld Lang Sync the pleasant gathering broke up. ground. M-G-M offers an infectious new Technicolor musical in "Take Me Out to the Ball Game." now on view at the Prince Edward Theatre. Its stars are Frank Sinatra, Es- ther Williams and Gene Kelly, with Betty Garrett. Edward Arn- old and Jules Mushnln (the comic waiter of "Easter Parade") in sup- porting leads. which in itself is a guarantee of home runs in song, romance and laughter. And "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" has all three in a big way. The fun revolves around two members of a ball term whose owner unexpectedly arrives in Flor- ida to supervise spring training. Shortstop Kelly, First Eastman Munshin and Second Baseman Sin- atra. who form the outstanding in- field combination, are all prepared to put the owneia in his place but they hadn't reckoned on its being, a girl. It's liisther ‘Williams of course, and she proves not only curvaceous but aible to put over fl. mean curve on the diamond. When Esther starts laying down the law about training rules. etc, Kelly tr'e= to wln her over with some hooflng and some even smoother ..iaii..ng, Meanwhile. it's bashful Sinatra who finds himself hope- lessly head-over-heels in love with the team's beguiling owner. ‘DAILY ACROSS Large tubs Just Prepare for publication Appearing as If eaten Breathe! noisily in sleep Render muddy Close to Devour Projecting end of a church I.’ ~ Sing in low tone River i Fr.) Reports coming in frcm many points indicate a normal amount of black ducks as compared with past seasons. Indications are that Panmure Island will be good this year, particularly in early morning and evening. No estimate of the number seen has been made; however, reports are that they are in fair quantity. Fortune locks good this year. as does also St. Peters and. Morel]. As usual, of course, the favorite spot, Pisquld Pond,'will have its large quota of gunners, not only on the pond, but also on the river. It is unfortunate that more wlld rice ponds could not be de- veloped at Pisquid Pond. since it is_t‘his which attracts the ducks to good feeding grounds. At all events the battery svill open fire shortly after sunrise on Saturday. and will undoubtedly continue Ahi-oughout the day since on that day the Hun season also begins. A real field day is in store for Hun shooters since this year one will find coveys almost everywhere. Partners of the district have indicated that coveys are larger than last year, and that there are more partridge than last yea-r. However. a word might not be misplaced In asking hunters to exert care when passing through the farmers fields. It is a. polite thing to ask permission before starting the hunt. and care should be taken to close all gates, and not. break down fences. These things are only to be expected. and hunt- ers should think of the services which the fauner provides through- out the winter when he is looking after the livelihood of several cov- eys. Without him our shooting might be small indeed, so hunters in this district are asked to be pol- ite to our farmer friends. Murray Harbor Mr. Peter White oi the M.V.
