IS celebrating her diamondi jubilee as a nurse Mrs. Buck. who turned 90 last February. has started to write of- her adventures as a private nurse that took her through most of the midwestern United States and through three wars. It was while in the samll Mich- igan peninsula town of Gaylord that she started the first baby clinic in the state "They were just talking about it in Detroit while we had it done." EARLY DAYS TOUGH Mrs. Buck said her retirement was gradual. hilt she readily re- called the day in June, i&97. she entered a training class at llarper Hospital in Detroit "You know nurses started much older in those days. The course was tough and i7 were in my class. We worked eight hours a day. seven days a week" After her graduation Mrs. Buck remained at Harper as a noos- supervisor It was while in the position that she "tried out" the X-ray ma- chine. She wore a single strand of pearls and carried a col- onial bouquct of Fill mums and stephanotis.
