Starting in early October,the Student Coucil Executive will be visiting the build- ings all over the campus to explain how it serves UPEI more than just socially.This will be a great opportunity to discuss any university-related issues that concern you. Until then,X-PRESS wants to remind you who the executive are and what their duties in- clude. Laurie Callaghan is the Vice-President Finance. If you. read last week’s issue, Laurie wrote about her respon- sibilities in her welcoming address.She will be busy reporting how UPEI is doing financially to the Council.Any questions you may for Laurie,she can be contacted at the Barn at 566-0648. Tracey Arsenault is the Vice-President Internal. Tracey keeps the communication open among the Union’scouncillors,employees,and volunteers.She works directly with the Department of Student Services and checks out the operations of X- PRESS,CIMN,and the Yearbook. Ifa professor or staff member wishes to see the minutes of Union meetings, Tracey gives the minutes to him or her. Her office phone number is 566-0670. Vice-President Operations is David Fitzpatrick. When a suborganization wants to raise money by holding a pub,it gets. a proposal from David.He sees that the organization has a successful event by supplying the entertainment. The manager of the Pather Lounge, Tracey Proude,and the Campus Police chief,Craig Chapman,keep David informed on what is happening with the Union staff. Anyone who is inter- ested in joining a committee such as the Fall Fest or Winter Carnival can contact David,and he oversees its activities.As you can see, booking and promoting talent takes time and a lot of: work,so the Promotions Co-ordinator, Tracy Dougay helps David.He shares the same phone number with Tracey Arsenault. If the Union would like research activities done for the students, Nadine will go ahead with them. She deals with groups outside UPEI [example,political groups],and she is a member of the University Senate,which is designed to have the © UPEI President,C.W.J.Eliot, and the Chairpersons hear the students’ concerns and take votes. Nadine’s phone number is the same as Laurie’s. Jo-Anna Murphy is the President. Her job is to be the official spokesperson for the Union and the chief executive.Jo-Anna calls meetings of the Executive Council and schedules the proposed Student Council Meeting dates as well as the General Meeting dates.She is also a member of the Senate.Jo-Annacan be reached at 566-0398. Jo-Anna,Nadine,David,Tracey,and Laurie are required to work ten hours a week or more, if necessary. They fulfill other duties like preparing for Frosh Week,Graduation Week,etc.Their main objective is to | represent the students. When they visit the buildings in early October,remember to talk to them about your concerns and consider running for the Coucil next year.
