Perry arrived in Charlotte- town yesterday morning at 11 o'clock withpassengers and an ex- ceptionally large cargo. She sailed again at 9 o'clock last evening with another large cargo consisting chiefly of 1000 barrels of mackerel, 400 cases of lobsters, 500 bags of potatoes, 200 bags of turnips, etc, 'ii EARL GREY.-The C. G. B. Earl Grey was towed from her regular berth lat the Marine wharf, *Char- lottctown, to'the Railway wharf on Thursday evening. to allow Dredge No. 9 of the Department of Public Works. to dredge the west side of the Marine wharf. The Ice Breaker will likely be taken out in the stream to- dai’ to make room for the large oil barge of the Standard Oil Company, which will shortly arrive from New Y k . or . . JE'I"l‘ISON.-A sequel to the rec- ent stranding of the Norwegian steamer Bjorgvin on the Indian Rocks at Wood Islands on the south- east' const of the Island takes place shortly in the sale of a. large quant- ity of the lumber which the steamer was carrying as deck cargo at the time she ran upon the reef in quest- ion. In order to lighten her so as toget the Bjorgvin afloat again this portion of the cargo had to ,be jet- tisoned, and it now lies scattered a- long the shore over a distance of a- bout nine miles, where it has been washed in by the waves. This lumber consists of three inch spruce deal, and there is altogether about 250,- ooo It of it to be sold at auction; of this about 100,000 rt. ues on the ` breakwater, at Belle river and a i like quantity on Wood Islands break- water, with the remainder above the high water mark along the snore. At highwater there is eight .feet of wat- er at Belle river and ten feet at Wood Islands making it thus an easy matter to load the lumber into schooners at these points. DISSERVES ENCOURAGEMENT.- During the past summer, notwith- standing the well known scarcity of lobsters the _ aggregate output of canned lobsters in Canada exceeded by several thousand dollars the out- put oi the previous year. This in attributed to thc fact that the fish- ermen were better equip-pe-_l -Lhis year than evcr befpre. The improved equipment consisted largely of a gasolcne motor in practically every lobster boat employed in the fisher- ics durillg the summer, enabling them to haul their traps, almost regard- less of weather conclitioiis, instead of, as formerly, waiting for afavor- able wind. To be fully equipped `- is the secret of success in any under- taking and the introduction of the gasoline motor is only another judi- cation of the adjustment tc condi- tions that is continuously going on. The fishing industry, one of the most important in Canada, had responded more slowly perhaps than any other to the rapidly changing demands of progress and, in consequence, made less rapid strides than any other. Tho past two summers have seen the be- ginning of a revolution in this indus- try which is destined to grow with the years. For this revolution the gasolene motor must be credited. Without it the fisheries would still be carried along on primitive lines and with increasing discouragement to those engaged in it. The placing of a reliable motor within reach of the P. E. Island fishermen, at a reasonable price and at the time when its need was most felt, was the happy inspiration which brought Bruce Stewart & Co _Limit- ed to the front among the successful manufacturers of Canada, and which at the same time, resulted in pro- ducing the Imperial Motor which is now known and sought for the world over. It was a happy inspiration, the prevision of keenminded business men and an assurance of continued suc- cess in the future. Buch a business as this, such a capacity to anticipate the needs of the market, and such capacity to supply these ‘needs with reliable goods, deserves to be en- couraged. 2308. ~ ::Gualacol Emulsion- The time is here when you should protect your- self against the cold and changes in weather.
