LETTERS TO THE EDITOR, An Explanation Wanted Srr.—As some dissatisfaction exists in connection with the awarding of prizes for high general standing in Prince of Wales Colleee last term, it might be well to know on what “high general standing” that those who made the highest aggregate of marks, and who naturally expected a recognition of cheir work, ¥ understand why they were depends, so would overlooked. If scholarship is nota necessary qualifi cation to the securing of these prizes the fact should be made known, in order to prevent misunderstanding and disappoint- ment. As the Lieutenant Governors prize was not awarded to the student who made the highest, or second highest next to McNally, it is evident that scholar- ship is not the only qualification necessary. But, perhaps, we do not understand what ‘thigh standing means In justice to all concerned this matter should be explained. Students fresh from the country schools, who are able to compete successfully with hose who have jad the benetit of a year or two at college, should be placed at no dis- advantage in the matter of prizes or honors. lt does not foliow, however, that there has been any unfair discrimination.
