BIOHAZARD Well, Halloween has come and gone once again and by now everyone should have recovered from the BIO BASH Saturday night! Judging from the amount of beer consumed, I’d say that everyone had a pretty good time. The Bio Club would like to thank Joel and his pere, and Kim Griffin and Brian Dunn for the BEVERages. The Graduate School Seminar will be held on FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 5 at 4 pm in the Library Lecture Theatre, Robertson Library Room 111. Dr. David Cairnes, a graduate of UPEI who is currently working with the Depart- ment of Environmental Resources, and Dr. Donna Giberson, a professor of biology at UPEI, will be speaking. They will be giving advice on how to apply to grad schools, how to get fund- ing, and lots of other info that you just can’t get from a university calender. There will also be lots of time to answer any questions you have. If you are considering grad school next year or the year after (or for those of us on the 10 year plan, the year after that), plan to come; you may get some valuable info that could put you ahead of the next guy/gal applying to get in. The Ornithology class is preparing a new lab guide with lots of hints for successful dissec- - tion. The first lesson is called ‘‘How to defrost a frozen Cormorant.’’ To begin, take one dead old cormorant. Wrap in plastic bag. Microwave on high in Engineers microwave for 7-10 min. or until odour is unbearable. Remove thawed bird and dissect. This method seems to work very well and we would like to thank the Engi- neers for their cooperation and use of their facilities.
