BAAS P ELLIOT LAE ILOE P ‘Welcome to the first and Nast edition of the X- Press for the 1995-96 school year. No, Student journalism hasn’t died a painful Heath on the UPEI bampus, we’re only changing our name. The reasons are detailed and technical to the point where we don’t have the Space to explain it ake Let it suffice that the name will be changed. So, we’re announcing the first contest of the year -- name the paper. Wrack your brain and come up with a wonderful And original new name for UPEI’s student mewspaper. We have lots bf great prizes down here in the office just waiting to be given hway. All you have to do is take a minute or three, jot your idea down on paper and drop ht off to us in room 06 Main building. Or you can email it to us at Kpress@upei.ca. Be sure to include your name and EDITORIAL TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES es By Marko Peric a phone number. We will be giving prizes for ‘the best suggestions, even those we decide not to use. The deadline for this contest is’ Thursday, September 28. I know it’s short notice, but that’s our press deadline. We must have a name before the deadline arrives. On a slightly more serious note, the start of a new school year <s an excellent time to get involved with one of the many student organizations on campus. A number of new students have already signed on with the paper this year, but there is always room for more volunteers. So, we’re putting out the call -- Uncle Marko wants you. (I know it’s an American slogan, but the Canadian Army's ‘‘Live the adventure’’ theme just doesn’t apply here.) If you might be interested, come to one of our weekly meetings, which are held (for the time being) every Tuesday at 6:00 pm in the newspaper office (room 06 Main building). Also, feel free to drop into the office anytime and talk to us. There is usually someone here, and we generally don’t bite. We have a gaggle of new columns this year, several of which are premiering this week. The paper will be covering everything from Residence life to the Internet. Some old favorites are returning, including the consistently popular B- Movie review Turkey Dinner which is re- starting next week. Hopefully there will be something for everyone. As always, feel free to offer any comments or suggestions, either in person or via e-mail.
