Eight years ago Mr. Neweome retired irom the bus- iness and the late Mr. E. G. Saun- ders became junior partner with his lather. The business activities oi the late Mr. Saunders extended throughout the Province, and wherever he was known he was justly regarded as a man oi the highest honor and in- tegrity. His word was his bond, and under the circumstances it is notto be wondered at that he achieved a marked success in the commercial llie oi the city and Island. He was an importer of cattle occasionally from as far as Ontario. He was also an extensive exporter and with the passing oi years the business oi the ilrm continued to expand. In the moral and spiritual wel- fare of the community Mr. Saund- ers at all times showed a keen in- terest. He was a consistent mem- ber oi St. James Presbyterian Church, and in his daily walk and ‘ conversation he exemplified those Christian principles upon which his ilnialtering faith was founded. Keenly interested also in the soc- lal and political liie oi the Prov- ince, Mr. Saunders’ took an active interest in every public question and could discuss such matters shrewdly and intelligently.
