ANE AY S ADVICE RESPECTING THE OOM- ING OF CHOLERA. In speaking of the likelihood of cholera gaining a foothold in America this year, Dr. | Janway of New York tersely advises every body to be prepared for the worst. This may seem at the first glance the talk of an alarmist, but it is in reality seund advice. There is no cause for panic, but a sysiematic preparation in view of # possible epidemic of cholera is really essential. Quarartine regulations need to be observed. The work of the scavenge: should extend toevery hole and corner of cities and towns. Anu uncontam/nated water supply is essentisl. The matter of sewereg is important But th-re is yet another a: also very important consilera:ion. lt is an undisputed fact that disuse of anv kind, and especially such a plegne as cholera, will lestcs 10st qui kly, and with the mst dea ily effect, ponan already diseas d ten debi ttated sys it therefore becom:s the duty of evei:y perso! o as far as possille secure hims2if or lLerse!! rom its ravages, by confeonting the d:eade enemy fithastropng and heal by physica system Comparatively few persons fins themselves in that e-ndiion at this seasor fthe year. ‘Ihe vast mej rity, indeed it may be said that all persons, fied it necessary) to fortify themselves by the use of some remedial age ney, to restcre lost vigor ane vitality and so be Jiterally prepared for the worst. The grateful testimony of thousands has established beyond dispute that no more effective combination for this purpose is offered to the public than Hawker’s nerve and stomach tonic and Hawker’s liver pills, ‘Lhese are standard remedies, the formulas of which are endorsed by leading physicians to everyone at moderate cost the most efficient means of regaining perfect health. They revitaiize the blood, stimulate the di- yestive organs to regular and perfect action, restore to the nerves that force and strength which they have lost, and remove from the system all traces and effecta of debility. No time should be lost in hesitation or to make a choice between remedies; for there is no other agency so sure and effective as Hawker's nerve and stomach tonic and Hawker’s liver pills. They are within the reach of all classes, and now is the time to secure the boon of restored health which they place within easy grasp. my8 dytf — aii <a —- An Irish carpenter fell from the roof to the ground, and when picked up remarked : c : ” **T was coming down after nails, anyway. Bent Stuff a Cold. If you do you will, nine times in ten, have a fever to starve. A cold is a shock received by the myriad nerves that bristle near the surface of a human body. This shock is transmitted to the nerve centres, and then back to the mucous membranes, forcing a great amount of blood to those membranes, creating a more or less severe irritation, and consequent rise in the tem- perature, followed by chills. Excess of food in the stemach still more increases the temperature ; and, worst of all, helps clog the secretions or natural outlets of the body. Itis high time we broke away from an old notion which, like some others, has done more harm than good. For example, i: years past how many poor fever sufferers, burning with an internal fire and thirst, were hurried to an untimely grave because not allowed cooling drinks or a bit of ice by the old time treatment for fevers, as foolish as the adage for fools, At last one cunning delirious patient got to a pump of cold water and drank his fill; de- termined not to leave until ithe well ran dry, he slacked the fever, re- eovered, and doctors learned a lesson. Experimenting with a severe cold is a danger 2us custom, as most persons try one remedy only until some friend suggests an- A FEW QUERIES.
