At the close, 23 stocks were down, three were up and 13 were unchanged out of a total of 39 traded in board lots- Following the trend in New York where prices broke sharply in the heaviest volume in some time, se- curity prices on the Montreal Stock Exchange began a. steady decline in the latter part o1 the session. in the earlier part of the day, there was no indication of the impending downturn, issues being traded in the morning session largely at their former levels. Canadian Pacific Railway was active leader with sales in 3,310 shares. International Nickel was second with sales in 2,075 shares and Brazilian Traction was third. with sales in 1.509 shares. Consolidated Smelters engaged in one of the widest movements. touching a new low at 119 and then rallying to 127 where it was down eight points.
